You want to know God’s will in your life? See this verse;
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
It may seem so simple but indeed rejoicing always and giving thanks under all circumstances is God’s will for us.But how many of us give thanks under ALL circumstances?Are we not inclined to give thanks only when we see good things happening in our life? And when something ‘bad’ happens we complain,get bitter,curse. Recently, a motorbike hit the bumper of our car and escaped. And mind you we were in a hurry to reach our destination. Was opening my mouth to curse the motor bike rider then i remembered this verse – that it is God’s will for me to give thanks even in this circumstance.I was asking God ” what is there to thank you about in this?”Then he opened my eyes to see that it could have been a worse incidence or even accident. I had every reason to thank Him for His protection. And instead of starting my morning with bitterness, i had a bright day full of thanksgiving.
Try to picture this: You have 1,000 shillings and decide to divide and send to two friends who are in need. The first one is so grateful and calls you to appreciate the fact that you thought about them.The second does not revert and you decide to call to find out if they received the money. He/she responds ” Surely is this all you could give?It can not even half-way meet my need!I would have expected more from a friend!” Now tell me, whom would you want to give the next time? Of course the one who was grateful for the little.
How much more do you think God would be willing to bless us with good things if only we were grateful for what he already has given us!There is so much power in giving thanks. No wonder God says in Psalm 50:23 “But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me..”
David understood this when he said ” I will enter his gates with thanksgiving in my heart, I will enter his courts with praise.The book of Psalm is full of many instances he is actually thanking and praising God.He had seen miracles happen when he gave thanks!He had realised that not only is God in full control of all things but also is loving and has good plans for him.Therefore whatever He allowed in his life, it was for his good and not evil In Psalm 119:62 he says ” At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, because of Your righteous judgment” In fact, during his days, some groups had been set aside for the sole purpose of singing praises and thanking God.
Jesus too fully understood the power in giving thanks.For instance in the miracle of 5 loaves and 2 fish,he gave thanks and broke the loaves and divided the fish and we know what followed. The crowd of over 4000 people ate to their fill and 12 basketfuls of the remainder were picked. Do you want miracles in your life, then stop and give thanks.
Probably you are going through hard times, maybe you are currently in huge debt that is stressing you, perhaps you are so worried because you are jobless and now you are unable to pay your house mortgage. God knew such times would come and knows how best to approach such situations. If you continue worrying, you will get unnecessary sicknesses High Blood pressure, Ulcers, Depression and the like. God has a better way which always works and that is why in Philippians 4:6 he commands us “Do not be anxious about ANYTHING, but in EVERYTHING, by prayer and petition, WITH THANKSGIVING, present your requests to God “
Maybe a promotion is taking too long to come by, just stop and give thanks, at least you have a job in this era of so much joblessness. Maybe your marriage is on the rocks, thank God at least you have a spouse, you are well and God’s grace has sustained you this far.The same God who brought the spouse to you is well able to sustain the marriage. Maybe there’s this sickness has taken hold of you, or probably there is this one thing you are really trusting God for. And you have tried prayer and fasting and nothing seems to work.May be it is time you stopped asking for more and instead give thanks for who you are, what by the grace of God you have and where God is leading you to.
In everything, there is always something to thank God for;may we ask Him to open our eyes to see what it is. Paul reminds us that whatever we do, whether in word or deed, we should do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him(Colossians 3:17)
